Overview

Do you have compassion and a desire to help children and families in need? The Prince William County Department of Social Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Human Services Caseworker to join the Family Support Services (FSS) Division on the Permanency Team.

The FSS Division manages state-mandated programs related to resource homes (foster homes), foster care, adoption, and Interstate Compact on Placement of Children (ICPC). We are a team-oriented agency seeking staff committed to excellence and dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and families involved in the child welfare system. The focus of the FSS Division is to ensure safety, well-being, and permanency for our children and families.

About This Role:

The Senior Human Services Caseworker supports permanency outcomes for children and families through advanced casework and staff supervision. The ideal candidate will have experience in a public child welfare setting, with a preference for experience related to adoption and/or adoption subsidy.

This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. The Senior Human Services Caseworker will serve as the team manager in the absence of the Program Manager and will supervise at least one staff member. Core competencies include knowledge of child and human development, cultural competency, family-centered practice, intervention strategies, family assessment, case planning, and legal documentation preparation.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting monthly home visits
  • Maintaining records of all adoption subsidy records
  • Completing Reports of Investigation on pre-adoptive placements
  • Preparing cases for permanency, to include full disclosure
  • Identifying and exploring placement options for youth who are not in pre-adoptive homes but are eligible for adoption
  • Completing Adoption Progress Reports and Annual Foster Care Reviews in accordance with court timelines
  • Coordinating with service providers and other involved agencies
  • Supervising at least one staff member on the team
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor s degree in social services, social work, or other human services field; OR a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a human services area.

Preferences
  • Master’s degree in social work or other human services-related field
  • 3 or more years of experience working with foster care youth and families in a public child-welfare agency, such as a Department of Social Services
  • 1 or more years of experience in the following areas:
    Working with adoption or adoption subsidy
  • Collaborating with partnering agencies such as mental health, schools, court services, police, and service vendors
  • Supervising staff who have performed professional-level work
  • Knowledge of state and federal child welfare policies and procedures
Special Requirements
  • All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
  • Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services, and DMV background checks.
  • Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Dept. of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
  • Staff in this position must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive for work.
Work Schedule

Monday-Friday 37.50 hours per week with flexible hours between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. This role offers the potential for a hybrid work arrangement, combining telework opportunities with required days in the office, at the manager s discretion.

Telework eligibility is subject to change as business needs warrant; there is no future guarantee of teleworking.

Hiring Salary Range

$76,069.50 to
