Bruck Edwards is seeking a skilled and proactive Network Specialist / Security Officer Subject Matter Expert responsible for maintaining the integrity, security, and performance of network infrastructure and federal IT systems. This role supports mission‑critical federal identity management programs and ensures compliance with federal cybersecurity standards, including FISMA and NIST. The position requires proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and enforcement of security protocols to safeguard sensitive information and ensure high availability of services in a secure environment.
Responsibilities- Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot network systems, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Implement and enforce network security protocols and access controls in compliance with federal standards.
- Support the deployment and configuration of network hardware and software.
- Support network monitoring to track network health, network utilization, and network optimization. Specify notification preferences based on pre‑set rules.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, systems, and application teams to ensure seamless integration and secure operations.
- Maintain documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in incident response and root‑cause analysis for network‑related issues.
- Provide technical support for system upgrades, patching, and migrations.
- Support security authorization and accreditation (A&A) processes.
- Ensure compliance with federal continuous monitoring requirements.
- Assist in annual PKI audits and other compliance processes.
- Track and resolve security incidents; maintain security documentation (SSPs, IRPs, CPs).
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
- Develop and execute security testing, audits, and continuous monitoring processes.
- Support development of contingency plans, incident response plans, and business impact analyses.
- Provide security training to trusted role personnel.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Active Top Secret security clearance.
- 10+ years of experience in network administration, engineering, information assurance, or cybersecurity roles (preferably supporting federal IT projects).
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Additional years of professional experience and IT certifications may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.
- An associate’s degree, plus 4 years of experience, can equate to a bachelor’s degree.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DNSSEC, DHCP, VPN, and firewall technologies.
- Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar network platforms.
- Familiarity with federal IT security standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST).
- Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Security+, or similar.
- Experience supporting federal identity or credentialing systems.
- Familiarity with cloud networking (AWS, Azure) and hybrid environments.
