Medical Assistant - Medical Group | Job Code: NU1278 | Full-time

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical support, assist with administrative tasks, and provide general support under direct supervision of a licensed practitioner or designee in accordance with UVA Health policies and procedures and competency to promote patient health and wellness.
  • Provide service to all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
  • Record and relay patient information, symptoms, and concerns to the patient’s medical provider or registered nurse for further triage assessment and to determine a plan of care.
  • Complete standardized rooming and perform clinical intake, health data collection, and documentation.
  • Perform tasks according to scope of practice, documented competencies, and as directed by a licensed practitioner or nurse; implement age-appropriate interventions as directed by the patient’s medical provider.
  • Reinforce patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs and the condition and age of the patient through approved educational materials or written instructions.
  • Organize and prioritize daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency; demonstrate teamwork in the delivery of patient care; recognize the importance of time sensitive issues.
  • Use knowledge and skills acquired through training and validation through competency testing; provide clinical support under the supervision of a licensed practitioner; document and capture charges for clinical support services rendered within the patient visit; perform administrative support responsibilities as directed by a Clinic Leader.
Qualifications
  • Education:
    High School Diploma or GED Required.
  • Experience:
    Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinic setting preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
  • Licensure:
    Current CMA, CCMA, or RMA credentials or completion of an approved medical assistant program required. Must obtain certification within 6 months of date of hire through a recognized national professional association such as AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NAHP, or NHA.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements Required:
    AHA Healthcare Provider BLS required. Ability to successfully complete general and department role based specific skills validation and competency testing.
