Position OverviewWe are seeking a prior Navy Fire Control Technician (FT – Submarines) to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting technical documentation, training development, and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) efforts. This role supports U.S. Navy programs including the Common Weapons Launcher (CWL) and Multi Tube Weapons Simulator (MTWS), with a strong emphasis on AN/BYG-1 combat systems.
The position blends operational fleet experience with technical writing, maintenance documentation validation, and training material development.
Responsibilities to Anticipate- Review, analyze, and provide feedback on draft maintenance documents and technical manuals
- Develop and modify operations and maintenance procedures for technical manuals and training products
- Validate test procedures during lab and submarine-based testing events (shift work possible)
- Support definition and review of system requirements for enhancements and modifications
- Contribute to ILS functions and support product development
- Travel to Navy customer sites and support lab-based and onboard activities
- Prepare documentation in multiple formats (.doc, PDF, HTML, XML/SGML, IETM)
- Support delivery of training and technical materials to fleet users
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or related field OR equivalent experience (4+ years job-related experience)
- 2+ additional years of related experience (6+ years total preferred)
- Active DoD Secret clearance required at time of hire
- Prior Navy Submarine Fire Control Technician (FT) experience required
- Experience with AN/BYG-1 submarine combat system
- Experience supporting CWL and/or MTWS systems preferred
- Qualified Master Training Specialist (preferred)
- Experience developing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) using S1000D
- Familiarity with DoD documentation standards (MIL-STD-3001, MIL-STD-38784, MIL-STD-24784, MIL-STD-40051-2C)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, XMLSpy, and Visio
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience developing Navy training curriculum using Instructional Design principles
- Experience with Submarine Launchers and fleet combat systems
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments
- Ability to manage multiple projects in high-pressure environments
- Proven ability to operate effectively in team-based environments
- Willingness to travel and perform duties onboard submarines
