Overview

Acara Solutions is seeking an experienced Advanced Systems Engineer with a strong Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering background to support our defense client in Manassas, VA. The hiring manager is specifically looking for a true Systems Engineer
-someone who has extensive experience writing, defining, and managing requirements (not software development, testing, scheduling, or program management).

In this role, you will join a cross-functional team responsible for the design, integration, and verification of advanced Command, Weapon, and Launch (CWL) systems. The position spans system architecture, payload integration, cybersecurity, and embedded software environments to ensure secure and reliable mission performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the system engineering and functional design of CWL systems, with emphasis on payload integration, weapon simulation, and overall system performance.
  • Define, write, and validate system and subsystem requirements
    , ensuring clear traceability through design, development, and testing.
  • Support the design of computer system architectures and integration of Linux and embedded operating systems for mission-critical applications.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity compliance efforts, ensuring adherence to information assurance and system protection standards.
  • Work collaboratively with software, hardware, test, and integration teams to maintain end-to-end system reliability.
  • Develop and maintain interface control documents, message specifications, and user interface definitions.
  • Participate in design reviews, customer technical meetings, and formal verification activities.
  • Provide technical documentation, modeling, and simulation input to support requirements validation and customer approvals.
Job Requirements Required Skills /

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering role, defense related.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with computer system architectures, cybersecurity, Linux, or embedded operating systems.
Preferred Skills /

Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Agile experience.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Clear understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, theories, and technical standards.
  • Clear understanding of requirements management and system modelling tools.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and handle increasing responsibilities with growing complexity.
  • Team player who thrives in collaborative environments and revels in team success.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and others.
