High school diploma or general education (GED) required and one or more years of post‑secondary experience working as a teacher assistant or similar paid/volunteer work which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: ability to work with various ability levels of students, skillful in effectively communicating with students, teachers, parents, and other school personnel, and ability to follow written and oral instructions and directions in carrying out tasks and procedures related to instructional and behavioral plans.

Positions and their assigned work locations are contingent upon sufficient student enrollment and program needs. An essential function of this position is the ability to work in person and physically report for work at the school. This is paraprofessional work which requires the teacher assistant to assist the classroom teacher in performing a variety of tasks and carrying out instructional procedures as directed by the classroom teacher.
The work is performed under the direct supervision of the teacher and building administrator.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Maintain alert attention to the responsibility of student supervision.
- Demonstrate ability to work with various ability levels of students.
- Follow written and oral instructions and directions in carrying out tasks and procedures related to instructional, behavioral, emergency and health‑related plans and services.
- Assist with clerical tasks, housekeeping chores, and bulletin boards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In some settings, other duties may include but are not limited to:
- Delivering non‑emergency health‑related services as specified in student's Health Treatment Plan.
- Delivering emergency treatment procedures to students as needed.
- Assisting in the safe and orderly mobilization of all students, including those physically disabled, to and from all school environments.
- Actively assisting students in dressing, eating, toileting, positioning, and with matters relating to personal hygiene and/or health‑related services (such as G‑tube feedings and braces) and emergency plans, as needed.
- In the event of toilet accidents, may be required to change soiled clothing.
$20.40 per hour
