job summary

the aviation manager is a senior-level professional responsible for overseeing the operational, safety, and administrative aspects of an agency’s or organization’s aviation functions. This role involves ensuring that flight operations, maintenance, and support services are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry regulations. The aviation manager serves as a strategic leader who directs day-to-day activities, manages personnel and budgets, liaises with regulatory authorities, and implements processes that drive operational excellence in the aviation environment.

responsibilities

direct the daily activities of the aviation department, including the scheduling of flights, crew assignments, and aircraft maintenance programs. Develop, implement, and continuously update operational procedures to enhance safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. Ensure all operations adhere to national and international aviation regulations (such as those from the faa, easa, or other relevant bodies). Oversee routine safety audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews to minimize operational hazards.

Prepare and manage budgets for the aviation department, monitor operational costs, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Forecast financial needs related to fuel, maintenance, training, and technology investments in aviation operations. Supervise a multidisciplinary team that may include pilots, maintenance technicians, dispatchers, and administrative personnel. Facilitate continuous professional development through training, performance evaluations, and mentorship programs. Collaborate with senior management to define long-term goals, expansion plans, and technology integrations that support operational growth.

Analyze performance metrics and operational data to drive process improvements and to enhance overall efficiency. Serve as the primary point of contact for external agencies, vendors, and regulatory authorities. Manage contracts, service agreements, and ensure that third-party collaborations meet the agency’s quality and safety standards.

knowledge and skills

excellent leadership skills with an ability to motivate teams and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical personnel. Deep understanding of aircraft operations, maintenance procedures, and the regulatory environments governing aviation activities. Competence in budgeting, financial planning, and resource management to optimize operational cost-effectiveness. Ability to analyze data, assess risks, and develop long-term strategies for process and performance improvement. Familiarity with aviation management software, maintenance tracking systems, and digital flight planning tools.

Ability to quickly adapt to changes in regulatory requirements, emerging technologies, and operational challenges while maintaining a focus on safety and efficiency.

minimum qualifications

high school diploma or ged.

minimum of 8 years of progressive experience within the aviation industry, including roles in operations or management.

possession of relevant industry certifications is essential. This shall include certification by the federal aviation administration or other national aviation bodies.
