Environmental Protection Officer (Planning, Licensing, Statutory Nuisance) – Essex

Buckingham Futures is partnering with a Local Authority in Essex to recruit an Environmental Protection Officer. This permanent, hands-on role provides broad experience across planning, licensing, and statutory nuisance enforcement.

• Investigate complaints such as noise, odour, and pollution issues
• Provide advice on planning and licensing applications
• Conduct site inspections and enforce compliance with environmental regulations
• Prepare detailed reports and case files for enforcement action
• Engage with residents, businesses, and stakeholders to resolve issues
• Support initiatives to improve local environmental quality

• Degree in Environmental Health or a related discipline, or relevant experience
• Knowledge of statutory nuisance, planning, and licensing regulations
• Strong investigative, report-writing, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

• Gain broad hands-on experience across Environmental Health and Protection
• Develop expertise in enforcement and regulatory work
• Clear progression path towards Senior Environmental Protection Officer
