Interim Financial Controller

Overview

Interim Financial Controller (Fixed Term Contract) — Mid Essex — Salary: circa £75,000

I am supporting a growing SME business to recruit an experienced Finance Controller on an interim basis to lead the finance function and support the wider business across all financial matters. This is a broad, hands-on role with responsibility for financial control, reporting, compliance and commercial insight, alongside managing and developing a well-established finance team.

• Take ownership of the finance team and ensure the delivery of accurate, timely and insightful financial information to support decision-making across the business.
• Leading and managing a finance team of 6, via 2 direct reports, covering AP, AR and financial control.
• Overseeing the month-end and year-end close, ensuring accurate balance sheets, P&L and cashflow reporting.
• Developing and enhancing commercial reporting to support sales and marketing performance.
• Supporting the budgeting process and longer-term financial planning.
• Maintaining strong internal controls and compliance, ensuring adherence to local and international standards.
• Managing cashflow, liquidity and banking relationships.
• Supporting the ongoing Sage X3 system development project.

• ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualification.
• Proven team management experience (essential).
• Strong background in financial reporting, control and compliance.
• Advanced Excel capability, including complex modelling, pivot tables and lookups/macros.
• Experience with in manufacturing, FMCG or stock-based environments, ideally within an SME.
• Strong commercial experience, particularly supporting sales performance and decision-making.
• A hands-on, proactive approach with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders.
