Tufts Medicine, a leading integrated academic health system in Massachusetts, and Acadia Healthcare have partnered to create the Tufts Medicine Behavioral Health Hospital, a state‑of‑the‑art, 144‑bed facility in Malden, Massachusetts. Slated to open in fall 2025, this hospital is designed to address the growing need for high‑quality behavioral health services in the region.

The hospital will serve as a center of excellence, offering inpatient and intensive outpatient programs for patients of all ages and functioning as a teaching hospital for future behavioral health professionals, including students and residents from the Tufts University School of Medicine.

Purpose Statement

Responsible for day‑to‑day oversight of nursing operations of the facility and ensuring staffing is adequate to provide care. When scheduled, oversees the delivery of behavioral health/nursing services in a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers at all times. Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment teams, other departments, and administration to meet residents’ physical, biopsychosocial, age, developmental and cultural needs and resolves customer complaints.

Responsibilities
  • Anticipate and manage changes in census and acu, allocating nursing resources based on patient acuity and care needs.
  • Model expectations related to customer service and demonstrate urgency regarding patient safety.
  • Enforce and interpret policies for the delivery of patient and resident care.
  • Ensure proper staffing for unit, maintaining staff ratios and covering call‑offs and vacation time.
  • Ensure chart checks, seclusion/restraint logs, nursing assessments, MARs, and report sheets are completed accurately and up to date.
  • Complete rounds at the beginning of shift and perform random audits.
  • Assist the DON in orienting and coaching staff to perform required duties.
  • Provide mentoring and training as needed.
  • Assist the DON to ensure facility compliance with professional, regulatory, and governmental standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient care processes and outcomes on the patient care units.
  • Coordinate all care rendered to patients, including physician orders and diagnostic information, and ensure consultations are ordered.
  • Document medical, behavioral health information and nursing care.
  • Administer medications and maintain records in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist in developing a plan of care with specific and measurable goals, objectives, and interventions, revising the plan as patient condition changes.
  • Prioritize tasks and delegate staff to ensure quality patient care.
  • Lead shift for all admissions and discharges, informing physicians of changes in patient conditions and adjusting staffing accordingly.
  • Utilize administrator‑on‑call for situations requiring additional attention.
  • Provide direct care as needed.
Other Functions
  • Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • BSN from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
  • Current registered nursing license in the state of the facility required.
  • Greater than 1 year of experience as an RN strongly preferred; 1 year in any setting required.
  • 1 year in psychiatric/recovery programs preferred.
  • Some experience as a charge RN or other leadership position strongly preferred.
Licenses/Designations/Certifications

Current certification or license to teach within the state where the facility is located. CPR and de‑escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility). First aid may be required based on state or facility.

Pay Range

$47.57 to $60.26 per hour.
