Acadia Healthcare, a leading provider of behavioral healthcare services across the United States, partners with Tufts Medicine to create the Tufts Medicine Behavioral Health Hospital, a 144‑bed facility in Malden, Massachusetts. The hospital will open in early 2026 and offers high‑quality, compassionate behavioral health services.
OverviewAs an Admissions Counselor, you will facilitate admissions, conduct clinical intake assessments, and oversee utilization review processes to ensure patients receive the most appropriate level of care. Your clinical expertise and the ability to build therapeutic relationships are essential for successful patient care.
Responsibilities- Respond to inquiries about the facility within policy time frames.
- Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Assess benefit eligibility and communicate results to the business office and patients.
- Collaborate with medical and psychiatric staff to make referral recommendations.
- Coordinate admissions and transfers between referral sources and levels of care within the facility.
- Maintain knowledge of milieu management.
- Communicate projected admissions to designated internal representatives promptly.
- Ensure clinical information from referral sources or patients is received prior to admission when possible.
- Schedule and complete pre‑admission assessments; consult with the admitting physician and communicate disposition recommendations.
- Prepare and maintain accurate medical record documentation for authorization at the requested level of care.
- Complete initial pre‑authorization for treatment and admission within payer timeframe guidelines.
- Admit patients using the registration and accounting system; complete all admission and consent forms.
- Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude toward customers and address complaints swiftly.
- Coordinate care for patients not being admitted to ensure appropriate follow‑up and referrals.
- Show urgency in patient safety and deliver excellent customer service.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure supervision at 15‑minute intervals or as required by precautionary guidelines.
- Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.
- Master’s degree in a social services field (psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing) or RN required.
- One or more years of experience in mental/behavioral health working with individuals in a clinical or observational capacity preferred.
- Current state LMHC licensure preferred.
- CPR and de‑escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire).
- First aid certification may be required based on state or facility policies.
Pay range: $30.44 to $35.29/hr.
