Position: Long Term Substitute - Assessment Coordinator [SY25-26]
This is a long term substitute position from August 25 - October 17, 2025

Overview of the Malden Public Schools:
The Malden Public Schools (MPS) is a richly diverse school district located within the Greater Boston area and accessible by the MBTA orange line train. Malden's student body comprises approximately 6,800 students who represent 59 different countries and speak 67 different languages. We have 1 early learning center, 5 K-8 schools, and 1 high school. Malden Public Schools is seeking a trilingual certified ESL teacher to coordinate intake, assessment and placement of English Learners.

Qualifications:

* MA DESE teacher license in ESL Prek-8 and SEI-Teacher Endorsement required

* Knowledge of Malden Public Schools and the English Language Learning programs.

* Intermediate fluency in three languages: preferably;
Portuguese, Spanish and Haitian Creole

* Ability to verify and maintain accuracy of confidential student information in English and preferably in other languages

* Ability to adapt to changes in work situations and priorities based on student enrollment trends

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Administer the WIDA screener to all students whose Home Language Survey identifies the need.

* Use WIDA screener results to support program placement decisions in collaboration with the ELL Director and Welcome Center Manager

* Complete required paperwork, enters it into the computer, and facilitates exchange of documentation between the schools, parents, and the English Language Learning Program

* Comply with federal and state regulations and classification mandates for english Learners

* Support Parent Information Center personnel with translation support if needed.

* Assess students at the Pre-K level.

* Provide families and caregivers guidance in the school enrollment process for English

* Maintain student/family confidentiality

* Coordinate MA DESE ELPAC meetings with ELL Director

Reports to:

Director of English Learner Education & Title III

Salary:

$135/Day - Retired Teacher w/ DESE Certification

$125/Day - DESE Teaching Certification

$100/Day - No Certification

If a substitute holds a Bachelors degree or a Teaching License, and they serve in the same assignment for a 30 consecutive work day probationary period, they are eligible to have their pay rate increased to a per diem rate of $210/day for the remainder of their current assignment; pay returns to the daily rate at the conclusion of their assignment;

however, if they move to another long-term assignment within a month, they do not have to restart the probationary period again and may continue receiving the per diem rate. Requests to move to the per diem rate at the end of probationary period must be made to HR, and confirmation will be submitted to payroll.
