Position Summary
Responsible for operating various types of equipment, including but not limited to excavator (20 ton Class or smaller), dozer (150 HP or smaller), loaders (under 4 CY), >12k forklifts, backhoe, articulated dump truck, and applicable light equipment to perform construction tasks such as material handling, matting, land clearing, excavation, rough grade roadways and sites, and underground utility work for heavy civil, industrial, and wind projects.
Responsibilities- Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures.
- Operate heavy equipment and possess knowledge of equipment functions, running, navigating, detecting or assessing problems, mechanical aptitude, and driving.
- Build level and/or extreme terrain and excavate land surfaces using various pieces of construction equipment listed above.
- Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, and rocks and to distribute and level earth or terrain.
- Gather and load dirt, stone, equipment, materials, and waste product from jobsite onto trucks using different pieces of equipment.
- Excavate trenches with proper slopes per OSHA.
- Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
- Communicate clearly, listen and understand information through spoken words and sentences to ensure full comprehension of job duties, safety regulations, and other situations that may require an immediate response.
- Perform maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing, and oiling machines; fill out maintenance reports daily.
- May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice.
- Perform other duties as required which may change from time to time as assigned by Superintendent or Foreman.
- 1–3 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a heavy equipment operator role.
- Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
- Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
- Set a personal example of safe behavior.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Perform basic arithmetic and measurements related to weight and volume.
- Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
- Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
- Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully; push, pull, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
- Stamina to perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
- Endure uncontrolled environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
- Wear personal protective equipment such as safety toe‑shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, and vest.
- Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
- Work at heights and abide by all safety and fall‑protection requirements.
- Evaluate information based on measurable standards and recognize slight differences in shapes and shading in drawings.
- Compensation: $26.00–$28.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
