This Electrician position is in the Facility Management Service at the VA Maine Healthcare System located at the Togus ME location. This position is full time at 40 hours per week.
The purpose of the Electrician position is to install, modify, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and operate new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. Duties include, but are not limited to:
* Install, modify, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and operate new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment.
* Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls.
* Subject to call-backs due to unexpected events adversely impacting the electrical equipment and systems supporting hospital operations.
* Assigned a wide variety of duties involving the installation, modification, repairs, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance.
* Operates the high voltage distribution systems and equipment to include cabling, circuit breakers, cut-outs, fused disconnects, load break elbow connectors.
* Installation and maintenance of data/voice lines including the termination of lines.
* Knowledge of electrical principles, procedures, materials, and safety standards governing electrical systems above 600 volts.
* Knowledge of the operation and installation of a variety of complex high-voltage electrical systems.
* Knowledge in the installation and operation of emergency power systems to include
stationary and portable diesel generators, automatic transfer switches, and temporary
cabling methods.
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and Operations & Maintenance manuals.
* Skilled in the use of hand tools and power tools such as: cable pullers, manual & hydraulic conduit benders, pipe threading machines, band saw, to be able to cut, thread, bend and install rigid conduit and other raceway systems and install conductors in said raceways.

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
