Summary Description

The Security Dispatcher is responsible for maintaining operational control of communications for DMC Police Authority. The Dispatcher is required to perform while demonstrating optimal customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Monitoring and responding to life safety systems - fire panel alarms, CCTV systems, infant abduction systems, access control, etc.
Knowledge of individual hospital and exterior campus.
Receiving emergency and non-emergency calls and recording significant information.
Prioritizing calls according to urgency and importance.
Using radio, phone, or computer to send Police Authority Officers to respond to situations.
Coordinating with police, fire department, and other emergency response teams to ensure appropriate response is made to emergency situations.
Understanding of police and fire response 911 notifications.
Reporting unusual activity to security staff who may investigate further or take action themselves.
Tracking inquiries, reports, and requests via manual or electronic logs.
Providing exceptional customer service to staff, patients, visitors, and physicians.
Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of all security orders, written and oral, pertaining to assigned duties, as well as working knowledge of regulatory requirements needed for position.
Emergency Management credentials FEMA 300, 400, 700.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduate or GED required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills Required:

Effective written and oral communication skills.

Effective interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the public in a professional and effective manner.

Ability to handle both common and crisis situations, calmly and efficiently.

Ability to use sound and independent judgement and critical thinking skills.

Strong active listening skills.

Ability to frequently prepare written reports and provide quality customer service.

Must meet all physical requirements of the job.

Must be able to perform duties wearing personal protective equipment (Masks, gowns, security-related equipment, etc.), as required.
