Summary DescriptionSecurity Dispatcher is responsible for maintaining operational control of communications for DMC Police Authority
. The dispatcher operates sophisticated technology equipment, monitors life safety systems, processes and dispatches emergency & non‑emergency calls, and demonstrates optimal customer service skills.
- Monitoring and responding to life safety systems – fire panel alarms, CCTV, infant abduction systems, access control, etc.
- Knowledge of individual hospital and exterior campus.
- Receiving emergency and non‑emergency calls and recording significant information.
- Prioritizing calls according to urgency and importance.
- Using radio, phone or computer to send Police Authority Officers to respond to situations.
- Coordinating with police, fire department and other emergency response teams to ensure appropriate response.
- Understanding of police and fire response 911 notifications.
- Reporting unusual activity to security staff for further investigation or action.
- Tracking inquiries, reports and requests via manual or electronic logs.
- Providing exceptional customer service to staff, patients, visitors and physicians.
- Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of all security orders, written and oral, relating to assigned duties, and working knowledge of regulatory requirements needed for the position.
- Emergency Management credentials: FEMA 300, 400, 700.
- Other duties as assigned.
High school graduate or GED required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills Required- Effective written and oral communication skills, including proper grammar and spelling for reporting.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the public professionally.
- Ability to handle both common and crisis situations calmly and efficiently.
- Sound and independent judgement and critical thinking skills.
- Strong active listening skills.
- Ability to frequently prepare written reports and provide quality customer service.
- Must meet all physical requirements of the job; may require an annual physical.
- Must be able to perform duties while wearing personal protective equipment (masks, gowns, security‑related equipment, etc.), as required.
