Wolfe's Neck Oceanfront Camping (WNOC)
Wolfe's Neck Oceanfront Camping is a vital part of the Wolfe's Neck Center organization and its mission. For over 50 years, WNOC has welcomed campers from all over the world to our more than 600-acre campus, including four miles of oceanfront along Maine's coastline. Encompassing 150 tent and RV sites, 5 cabins and A-frames as well as comfort and quiet camping options, WNOC provides a variety of outdoor camping and recreation experiences to help individuals and families connect with the outdoors, food, and farming.
PositionSummary
Outdoor Recreation and Rentals staff members are part of the WNOC team, and they are primarily responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our expanding outdoor equipment rental program, which includes kayaks, canoes, standup paddleboards, bikes, and camping equipment. Outdoor Recreation and Rentals staff may also assist with outdoor-oriented activities & programming within the campground. They are friendly and informative ambassadors for the entire organization.
Responsibilities- Provide a friendly and welcoming environment to all visitors across the campus as an ambassador for Wolfe's Neck Center.
- Support the Paddle Sports operation:
- Register and check in participants using rental equipment software (Peek Pro)
- Select appropriate equipment for participants based on factors such as height, weight, and experience
- Deliver a paddle talk prior to each rental session that covers important safety information about paddling on Casco Bay and teach basic paddle strokes. Some paddling experience is preferred, but advanced skills are not necessary.
- Assist guests with launching boats and paddleboards from the beach and rocky shoreline
- Monitor environmental conditions and cancel or hold rental sessions if warranted
- Maintain the cleanliness of all rental equipment and perform basic maintenance & repairs
- Support the Bike Rental program:
- Register and check in participants using rental equipment software (Peek Pro)
- Select appropriate equipment for participants based on proper fit
- Deliver important information about bike safety and notes about biking in the area
- Maintain the cleanliness of all bikes and perform basic maintenance & repairs, including changing flat tires, oiling chains, adjusting brakes, etc. Advanced bike service skills are welcomed but not required.
- Support the Camping Gear Rental program:
- Register and check in participants using rental equipment software (Peek Pro)
- Gather appropriate equipment in advance of guest arrival and confirm quality & cleanliness
- Greet guests on arrival and provide important information about the care and use of the equipment
- Verify all equipment is returned clean and in good condition
- Break down equipment, re-pack it, and store it appropriately
- Maintain the cleanliness of all equipment, which may include laundering sleeping bags, drying tents, washing dishes, cleaning grill grates, etc.
- Perform basic maintenance & repair, including patching small tears, replacing parts, replacing valves, etc.
- Perform unrelated campground duties such as watering gardens, sorting recycling, and working as a cashier in the Farm Store or Farm Cafe.
- Provide occasional support to the housekeeping team with cleaning of campsites, cabins, and bathhouse facilities.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Visitor Experience Supervisor and Campground Manager.
- Experience in the field of outdoor recreation
- Strong customer service skills, with experience in hospitality
- Ability to problem‑solve under pressure and in a busy environment
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and switch between tasks quickly
- Maintain professional working relationships with staff, volunteers, and visitors
- Highly organized, energetic, and collaborative team player
- Flexible in regards to work assignments and task flow
