Assistant Dairy Manager
Full-time, year‑round position for a two‑year term. The Assistant Dairy Manager provides a Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship graduate or someone with similar training knowledge and experience needed for future dairy management roles. The role focuses on dairy operations management, technical skill growth, and development of interpersonal skills and financial literacy.
Responsibilities- Support the Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship program by fostering a team dynamic, supportive learning environment, and culture of professionalism.
- Lead management of specific livestock enterprises or management areas as appropriate.
- Assist with basic dairy operations: milking and chore shifts; moving temporary fencing for rotational grazing; administering basic veterinary care; trailering livestock; maintaining accurate records in Pasture Map, PCDART and hard‑copy systems.
- Operate farm equipment safely and effectively—tractors, skid steers, etc.
- Collaborate across Wolfe’s Neck Center to support cross‑departmental projects and organizational goals.
- Work a variable schedule that includes weekends, occasional long days, and emergency situations.
- 35‑50 hours per week depending on seasonal workload.
- Five scheduled shifts per week, two consecutive days off.
- One weekend day off per week.
- Holiday coverage split with the Dairy Manager.
- Serve as Residential Advisor to Banter House: lead monthly meetings, enforce house policies, respond to complaints, conflicts and emergencies.
- Minimum two years in organic and/or pasture‑based livestock operations; completion of Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship (Journey status) is a plus.
- Commercial dairy experience preferred.
- Proficiency operating farm machinery and equipment (tractors, hay equipment, skid steers).
- Strong teamwork skills, ability to build positive relationships across diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; enthusiastic, engaging and comfortable with the public.
- Strong organizational abilities: time management, planning, multitasking.
- Independent work with high autonomy; adaptive to dynamic nonprofit farm needs.
- Physical capability to lift 50+ lbs; work in diverse weather conditions and for extended daily/weekly hours during high season.
- Continuing education and networking through local and regional events.
- Attendance at training and courses.
- Teaching and mentorship of pre‑apprentices and apprentices via daily work.
- Pathways to becoming a manager.
- Legally able to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship).

Salary: $45,000 – $50,000 per year
