Heart of Maine United Way (HoMEUW) is seeking a dynamic, relationship-driven President & CEO to lead the organization into its next chapter of impact, growth, and community leadership.

This is an opportunity to step into a well-positioned organization with strong momentum, a committed Board, a talented leadership team, and a bold vision for the future. The next CEO will build on successful fundraising efforts, continue to diversify revenue, and strengthen HoMEUW’s role as a trusted community leader and convener across Eastern Maine.

HoMEUW serves six counties in Eastern Maine and is focused on advancing long-term solutions in Basic Needs, Early Childhood Development, and Substance Use Disorder through its Opportunity 2028 Bold Goals.

In recent years, HoMEUW has:

• Diversified revenue well beyond the traditional workplace campaign
• Re-engaged donors, funders, and partners around measurable impact
• Expanded innovative initiatives such as Bundle
  
  ME and reimagined grantmaking through strategic investment and Transformative Impact grants
• Launched The COMMUNITY:
  Maine’s Nonprofit Hub, a shared space designed to strengthen the nonprofit sector by fostering collaboration, efficiency, and collective impact across the region.

The President & CEO is the organization’s chief executive and lead fundraiser, responsible for strategic leadership, community visibility, organizational performance, and long-term sustainability.

This role is ideal for a leader who excels at building relationships, inspiring investment in mission-driven work, and leading teams with clarity and accountability.

• Lead the execution of HoMEUW’s strategic plan and Opportunity 2028 Bold Goals
• Serve as a lead ambassador for HoMEUW, cultivating relationships with major donors, corporate partners, foundations, and public leaders
• Maintain a personal portfolio of key donors and play a primary role in major gift cultivation and solicitation
• Partner closely with the Board of Directors on strategy, governance, and fundraising leadership
• Lead, develop and support a high-performing team aligned with HoMEUW’s goals and strategic direction
• Ensure strong financial stewardship, operational excellence, and organizational effectiveness

• 8 or more years of senior leadership experience, ideally in nonprofit, philanthropic, or community-based organizations
• Demonstrated success in nonprofit management, fundraising, revenue diversification and financial oversight
• Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
• Strong strategic, financial, and operational acumen
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills
• United Way experience and knowledge of the regional philanthropic landscape are a plus, but not required.
