Executive Director

Serves as the TSC’s principal camp professional/camp director. Reports to the President of the TSC Board of Directors. Works with the officers and TSC Board of Directors on all aspects of our program: summer operations, winter programs, finance/operating budget/reporting, and fundraising. Is the TSC’s principal point of contact for social service agency partners, parents, staff, and campers. Works day to day with two full‑time associates: the Assistant Camp Director (a full‑time position to be hired by the Executive Director) and the Director of Development and Administration.

This role requires a strong leadership presence, exceptional organizational skills, and a passion for at‑risk youth development. The summer of 2026 will be a transition of leadership.

This is a full‑time, year‑round position. The Executive Director will be on site at TSC in Readfield, ME, during the 12‑week summer session. During the off‑season, the work is primarily remote, combined with in‑person office meetings with the Assistant Director and Director of Development and Administration. During the off‑season, the position often requires evening and weekend work to accommodate winter camper events, board of directors’ meetings, professional conferences, staff recruiting, and other public events.

• Program
  • Structure, manage, and evaluate General Camp (4 ten‑day sessions), Hiking & Canoeing (1 two‑week session), Leadership Training (throughout the summer), Counselor‑in‑Training (throughout the summer), and Literacy programs (throughout the summer)
  • Promote a positive and inclusive camp culture
  • Ensure the safety and well‑being of all campers and staff
  • Reside on site in Readfield, ME, from June 1 to August 30
  • Winter – develop and supervise an outreach program for high‑school juniors and seniors
  • Recommend and structure other off‑season programs, “winter camp,” for example
• Staff Recruitment and Training
  • Recruit, train, and supervise camp staff (30 general counselors plus directors for leadership program, hiking and canoeing program, and Counselor‑in‑Training program)
  • Hire and supervise on‑site RNs
  • Hire and supervise kitchen staff
  • Coordinate staff transportation to and from Readfield, ME
• Camper Enrollment
  • Work with social service agencies, schools, parents/guardians to complete camper applications
  • Enroll 350 campers annually
• Readfield Operations
  • Open and close the camp facility
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Maintain a relationship with local medical professionals/police/fire
  • Oversee maintenance of camp facilities (per lease agreement with Girl Scouts of Maine)
  • Maintain and update, as required, all TSC equipment
  • Respond to emergencies/crisis management
• General Management
  • Raise funds and develop relationships with individual donors, non‑board‑affiliated foundations, businesses, and government agencies
  • Prepare and manage the TSC operating budget, working with the TSC bookkeeper and accountant to prepare financial statements and file Form 990
  • Recommend capital expenditures for the Readfield site
  • Consult with TSC legal counsel as required
  • Maintain American Camp Association accreditation and State of Maine Youth Camp Licensure
  • Work with Girl Scouts of Maine (Readfield landlord) on site issues
  • Attend regional camp conferences and camp director meetings

• Bachelor's degree/social work degree or experience/strong understanding of child development
• Previous experience as a camp director or a similar role
• Enthusiasm and passion for working with youth and young adults from underserved and at‑risk communities
