Overview

This position comes with a $1000 sign-on bonus. The Drafter CAD Operator plays a critical role in transforming conceptual designs and engineering specifications into detailed technical drawings using advanced computer-aided design (CAD) software. This position is central to the creation and updating of telecommunications, information technology infrastructure, and cabling diagrams projects. The role involves collaborating closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to ensure that all drawings meet project requirements and industry standards.

The Drafter CAD Operator is responsible for revising and updating drawings based on feedback and changes throughout the project lifecycle. Individuals must be able to attain and maintain a valid US Government Secret security clearance to be retained in the position.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the drawings reflect engineered solutions and are of sufficient detail to serve as integration drawings
  • Convert mark-up drawings to final, as-built drawings
  • Complete drawing in AutoCAD to fulfill DoD standards
  • Maintain accurate as-built drawings of the inside and outside cable plant systems
  • Utilize GPS software/equipment, plotters, and scanners
  • Update and maintain all OSP/ISP and remote communications facilities drawings in the CAD-CAM system
  • Maintain all site drawings in final CAD format
  • Help customers with software issues and instructions so they may access data
  • Conduct site surveys and create drawings in the CAD-CAM system of all buildings with communications equipment and installation work requests to identify available facilities, materials and required equipment
  • Prepare various drawings of computer models such as construction projects or parts and assemblies, including various views, sectional profiles, irregular or reverse curves, hidden lines, and small or intricate details
  • Prepare drawings that communicate engineering ideas, designs, and information in support of engineering functions directly supporting DoD Enterprise infrastructure and IT goals
  • Provide day-to-day support operations for current and future information technology services
  • Prepare reports
  • Ensure all paperwork such as required forms, records, and files pertaining to assigned work are maintained
  • Respond to telephone, written and verbal inquiries using standard operating procedures
  • Read, interpret and apply engineering terminology and symbols
  • Transfer engineering designs and concepts to final hard copy drawings and records that comply with specialized standards and specifications
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Associate degree or equivalent technical certification in Drafting, CAD Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience operating CAD software in an engineering or architectural environment
  • Proficiency in industry-standard CAD software such as AutoCAD, 3d Civil, Revit or other BIM related programs
  • Strong understanding of technical drawing standards, symbols, and conventions
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications accurately
  • National Security background investigation required, Secret
Skill & Certification Requirements
  • Proficiency in CAD software for creating, modifying, and managing detailed designs that meet project specifications and industry standards
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret technical documents and identify potential design issues early in the drafting process
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineers, architects, and project teams to incorporate feedback
  • Microsoft Office Tools:
    Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • AutoCAD, 3d Civil, Revit or other BIM related programs
  • Position requires sitting for long periods (sedentary work)
  • Most duties require extended use of a keyboard and computer monitor
  • Extended telephone use
  • May require lifting of 20-50 lbs
