Senior Design Engineer DescriptionOur client is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to add to their team near Orono, ME. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will play a key role in delivering designs that move quickly from customer request to production. You will focus on quick-turn design modifications, custom product development, and translating customer requirements into manufacturable solutions. In addition to hands‑on design work, this position will serve as a technical leader and mentor within the engineering group.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in mechanical design, sheet metal fabrication, and product development, and enjoys mentoring others, sharing technical expertise, and helping elevate overall team capability. - Provide rapid design support for custom product modifications and new configurations
- Translate customer requirements into detailed, manufacturable specifications
- Develop and modify 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and BOMs
- Customize existing designs while ensuring feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability
- Create conceptual drawings and renderings to support technical sales efforts
- Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and engineering teams to implement changes
- Ensure designs comply with internal standards and industry regulations
- Participate in design reviews, cost analyses, and product improvement initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline required
- 8+ years of hands‑on mechanical design experience required
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software (Solid Works, AutoCAD, or Creo) required
- Strong background in sheet metal design and fabrication processes required
- Demonstrated experience in new product development and DFM required
