Sevee & Maher Engineers, Inc. (SME) has a full-time position for an experienced Industrial Hygienist/Environmental Consultant at our Cumberland, Maine office.

Position Summary

The Environmental Consultant/Industrial Hygienist is responsible for a range of duties, including indoor air testing, hazardous building materials inspection and sampling, abatement design specifications, oversight of hazardous material abatement, project management, site planning, bid and construction services, permitting, and investigation report preparation.
This position will also be responsible for management and mentoring of less experienced staff.

The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage large quantities of environmental samples and observations. Excellent communication skills are essential to interact with contractors, business clients, and homeowners. A solid understanding of building systems and construction styles is helpful for identifying potentially hazardous materials. Experience in creating realistic delivery schedules and accurate budgeting is beneficial.

This role requires collaboration as part of a team and the ability to develop practical, cost-effective solutions for clients.

This position involves working with and sampling potentially hazardous materials. Qualified candidates must be able to pass a physical and wear personal protective equipment, including a tight-fitting respirator, and work in various weather conditions. SME prioritizes safety and requires compliance with company safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Perform indoor air testing and hazardous building materials inspection and sampling
  • Prepare abatement design specifications and oversee hazardous material abatement
  • Manage projects, site planning, bid and construction services, permitting, and investigation report preparation
  • Provide mentorship and supervising of less experienced staff
  • Coordinate with contractors, clients, and homeowners; communicate findings and recommendations
Qualifications
  • B.S. in a physical science such as Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, etc.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations and/or ability to read and interpret regulations
  • Ability to perform field work outdoors in varying weather, climb ladders and work in elevated areas, wear PPE (including respirator), access confined spaces, and work nights/weekends when needed
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, technical report writing, and data interpretation
  • Experience collaborating with clients to understand needs and provide responsive support; strong oral and written communication skills
  • Preferred accreditations: ACAC CIE/CMC/CMI, and Board of Certified Safety Professionals CSP
