Director of Special Services
MSAD 41, located in beautiful Piscataquis County, seeks a full‑time Director to oversee Special Education, Chapter 504 programming, Gifted and Talented programming, and services for students in grades PK‑12. The district serves approximately 600 students across four schools:
Marion
C. Cook Elementary School (PK), Milo Elementary School (K‑2), Brownville Elementary School (3‑4), and Penquis Valley Middle High School (5‑12). This position begins as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
- Lead Special Education, Chapter 504, Gifted and Talented, and behavior/life skills programs.
- Oversee all aspects of IDEA, Section 504, and GT programs.
- Develop and inspire staff and students to high levels of achievement.
- Build respectful professional relationships with stakeholders.
- Support instructional improvement through effective evaluation practices.
- Utilize data‑driven decision‑making and technology in instruction and data analysis.
- Collaborate with a strong leadership team.
- Demonstrated previous successful leadership experience as a Director of Special Education.
- In‑depth knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and Chapter 104.
- Experience with assessment for identification, annual reviews, and triennial reviews.
- Experience overseeing behavior and life skills programs.
- Ability to inspire trust and confidence in students, staff, and community.
- Knowledge of data‑driven decision‑making.
- Proficiency with technology as an instructional tool and in data analysis.
- Strong team‑player skills.
- Possession of Maine Administrator of Special Education (030) certification;
Assistant Director of Special Services certification will also be considered. - A Master’s degree in special education, educational leadership, administration, or a related field.
