Location: Fayette

Art Teacher (PreK–5) – Part-Time (1 Day per Week)

Fayette Central School has an opening for a part‑time Art Teacher. FCS is a small rural elementary school in Fayette, located approximately 15 miles west of Augusta. We serve approximately 65 students in grades PreK–5. This is a one day per week, school‑year position.

The Art Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate visual arts instruction to students in PreK through grade 5. The ideal candidate will foster creativity, self‑expression, and skill development while creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement standards‑based art lessons for students in PreK–5
  • Teach fundamental art concepts and techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media
  • Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners
  • Integrate art history, cultural connections, and cross‑curricular opportunities when appropriate
  • Maintain and organize art materials and supplies
  • Display student artwork throughout the school to celebrate learning
  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and school staff to support student growth
Qualifications
  • Maine Teaching Certification with Art endorsement (or eligibility)
  • Experience working with elementary‑aged students preferred
  • Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for working in a small school setting
