Hall‑Dale Middle and High School is seeking a passionate and skilled Japanese Language Teacher to develop and deliver a comprehensive Japanese language program for students in grades 7–12. Position Summary:
Hall‑Dale Middle and High School is seeking a passionate and skilled Japanese Language Teacher to develop and deliver a comprehensive Japanese language program for students in grades 7–12. The successful candidate will create an engaging, communicative classroom environment rooted in standards‑based language learning, introduce students to Japanese culture and global perspectives, and build a program that grows with student interest and community support.
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards‑aligned Japanese language instruction across middle and high school levels, with differentiated approaches for beginning through advanced learners.
- Design a sequential, standards‑based curriculum aligned with ACTFL World‑Readiness Standards and Maine Learning Results.
- Foster authentic communication in Japanese through listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities.
- Integrate Japanese culture, history, and contemporary society into language instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with students, families, and colleagues.
- Collaborate with world language colleagues and interdisciplinary teams across the building and district.
- Participate in professional learning communities, department meetings, and school‑wide initiatives.
- Support extracurricular cultural programming, clubs, or exchange opportunities as appropriate.
- Maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment for all learners.
- Valid State of Maine Department of Education Japanese (480) Certification (or eligibility for certification).
- Valid State of Maine Department of Education background check (CHRC) authorization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Japanese, Education, Linguistics, or a closely related field.
- Prior teaching experience.
- Experience teaching multi‑level or combined‑grade language courses.
- Knowledge of Maine Learning Standards and ACTFL standards and proficiency levels.
- Familiarity with standards‑based learning.
- Strong foundational knowledge of second language acquisition and communicative language teaching.
- Ability to work effectively with middle and high school students in a rural school setting.
- Cultural or lived experience connected to Japan or Japanese‑speaking communities.
- Experience developing a new or growing language program.
Hall‑Dale Middle School (Grades 6‑8) and Hall‑Dale High School (Grades 9‑12) are a close‑knit, student‑centered school campus located in Farmingdale, Maine and are part of the Kennebec Intra‑District Schools (RSU

Based on teacher position experience and in accordance with the 2026‑2027 wage scale in the Teacher Bargaining Agreement: $45,630 [BA, step 1] – $84,537 [MA+15, step 22+], prorated from start date. The complete contract year is 182 days.
