Assistant​/Associate Dean in Wildlife, Zoology, or Animal field

The Opportunity

The Assistant/Associate Dean acts as an extension of the Dean of Baccalaureate Programs, and is expected to perform duties related to course scheduling, academic program development, course design, adjunct faculty recruitment, support of student recruitment and advising, content development, and capacity building. The Assistant/Associate Dean is a member of the Enterprise Education Baccalaureate Faculty. All EE Faculty teach, oversee program viability and relevance, recruit for programs, advise students, mentor capstone projects, and provide other services as needed.

Faculty teach through the institution's Learning Management Software (LMS) and implement appropriate online pedagogical techniques for the online environment, providing course materials in a professional, clear, rigorous manner. This position reports to the Dean of Baccalaureate Programs in Enterprise Education and is based in the Unity Environmental University Enterprise Education offices located in New Gloucester, Maine.

Salary: $65,000 - $75,000

• Administrative — A suite of administrative tasks divided by the Dean based on expertise, including:
  • Work with EE-dedicated Enterprise HR staff to hire qualified adjunct instructors and SMEs
  • Evaluate and identify qualified applicants for adjunct teaching positions and SME opportunities
  • Monitor the HRIS database to ensure adjunct instructors’ credentials are updated
  • Monitor the DE faculty web pages to keep information about adjunct instructors up-to-date
  • Coordinate with the Vice President of Student Outcomes to develop a schedule that meets students’ needs
  • Investigate student concerns about instructional experiences and communicate resolutions with the Advising team and/or VP Student Outcomes
  • Conduct and summarize research related to andragogical practices that support student learning in EE baccalaureate programming
  • Develop research-based tools and learning opportunities to support growth and improvement of EE instructors
  • Collaborate with instructors to improve practice
  • Gather and analyze data related to instructional quality and student achievement of course- and program-level outcomes; prepare summary reports and advise the Dean on actions needed
  • Make recommendations about course assignments based on instructional efficacy data
• Curricular — Maintain curriculum integrity including accreditation requirements; serve as SME for course design and oversee SMEs for course design
• Instructional — Teach up to 120 student credit hours per calendar year; apply knowledge of learning models, online pedagogy, and technology to support adult and non-traditional learners
• General — Proactively communicate challenges, successes, and failures with the Dean; perform other duties as assigned
• EE SEBU: Communication and Student-Focused Collaboration and Problem-Solving — Participate in governance, demonstrate commitment to customer service and quality education, work with Distance Education staff to develop advising and retention strategies, collaborate to address concerns and develop solutions, and become knowledgeable about Unity Environmental University Enterprise Education
• Unity Environmental University: Understand, represent, and work within the Enterprise Model; professionally represent UEU Enterprise Education through scholarship, outreach, and professional platforms

• A terminal degree in wildlife conservation, zoology, animal science, animal health and behavior, marine biology, or a related field; or a Master’s degree with significant professional experience in wildlife management or animal sciences. Leadership experience in higher education, teaching, and assessment. Experience administering online courses in an adult market is preferred.
