Fryeburg Academy, a 700-student day and boarding high school located in Western Maine/the Mount Washington Valley, seeks an innovative Business and Economics teacher beginning in the fall of 2026. This full-time position involves teaching five classes during Semester I and Semester II as well as three classes during May Term. (The last three weeks of each school year are a stand‑alone period called May Term in which teachers offer non‑traditional classes focusing on experiential learning or using knowledge in new contexts.)
Fryeburg Academy faculty have responsibilities connected with the school's boarding program and extracurricular offerings. The Academy seeks individuals who enjoy working with high school students in and out of the classroom and who wish to strengthen its community through a commitment to various roles.
- Teach AP Business with Personal Finance; teach college prep Economics; teach AP Macro and AP Micro (in alternating years)
- Serve as an advisor for a group of 10-14 students
- Serve on a dorm team
- A strong belief in independent education, and particularly the mission of Fryeburg Academy
- Ability to work with, encourage, and inspire students to seek continuous growth
- A willingness to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and with a variety of abilities
- An understanding of how students learn
- Ability and desire to plan high-quality instruction, assess student learning, reflect on pedagogical effectiveness, and adjust approach as needed
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining high professional standards
- Basic computer literacy skills
- A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience and developed, varied strategies for teaching business‑ and economics‑related courses.
- Experience working with students outside the classroom (e.g., tutoring, coaching, working in a residential or camp setting or as an activity advisor) is a plus.

- All Fryeburg Academy employees are subject to and must hold a Maine Dept. of Education Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) Approval.
