Statement of the Job:Fifty Percent of this position is parent education, to build protective factors that serve as buffers to reduce risk to young children, prenatal to age five, and families. These protective factors include parental resilience, knowledge of child development and parenting skills, social connections, and social emotional competence of children. Through Maine Families and Families First, this Parent Education Professional delivers the Parent as Teachers™ evidence-based model which is based on respected research findings with numerous studies demonstrating the following positive outcomes: increased parent knowledge of development, early detection of developmental delays, increased school readiness and prevention of child abuse and neglect as a basis.
This model is designed to be delivered in the homes of parents, through Zoom or a mutually agreed upon location. This position works with families in Knox/Lincoln Counties and other towns as assigned. Typical hiring range for this soft-money funded position is $65,000 to $75,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Fifty percent of this position is administrative, to include individual supervision of Maine Families parent educators working in Knox, Lincoln and Sagadahoc Counties and Cumberland Towns using strengths based reflective supervision techniques and University of Maine employee performance standards.
Required:- Bachelor’s degree in human services, early childhood education, social work, health, psychology or a bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field and five years of previous supervised work experience with young children and/or parents.
- Experience in supervision, training and/or mentoring of staff.
- Knowledge of reflective supervision practice as well as supporting, managing and motivating staff.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Effective oral, written and electronic communication skills.
- Experience with family-centered and strength-based programs.
- Knowledge of child development and maternal-infant health.
- Proven skills in delivering parent education including developing positive parenting skills, providing knowledge of child development and strengthening parent-child relationships.
- Demonstrated skills in establishing rapport and assessing the needs of parents and young children.
- Experience in referring and connecting families to local resources and organizations.
- Experience collaborating with community partners.
- Experience working with and delivering educational programs to diverse participants.
- Ability to travel with a personal vehicle (travel reimbursed at the current grant rate).
- Ability to earn and maintain yearly renewal of Parents as Teachers™ and Maine Families certifications.
- Masters Degree.
- Knowledge and experience with Parents as Teachers™ evidence based model.
- Experience working in a home-based setting.
