The Collaborative School, a division of The Maine Special Education Mental Health Collaborative, is currently seeking a Middle School Special Education Teacher to join our dynamic team. We are a Special Purpose Private School approved by the Maine Department of Education, serving students in grades K–12 whose learning and social-emotional needs require a highly supportive, integrated, and trauma-informed educational environment.

At The Collaborative School, we believe that strong, respectful relationships form the foundation for meaningful learning. Our mission is to support the growth and potential of each student by integrating evidence-based therapeutic practices with engaging academic instruction in a highly individualized setting.

What Makes The Collaborative School Unique
  • Low student-to-staff ratio to allow for individualized instruction and attention.
  • A relationship-based, trauma-informed approach grounded in clinical expertise and educational best practices.
  • On-site clinical supervision and embedded therapeutic support.
  • A highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team model where educators work closely with social workers, clinicians, and support staff.
  • Strong emphasis on professional and personal growth, including access to cutting-edge training in mental health and education, including collaborative problem‑solving, restorative practices, and sensory-based strategies.
  • A community that values creativity, flexibility, and deep empathy in responding to students’ academic and behavioral needs.

A qualified candidate must hold or be eligible for Maine 282 certification and have an interest and ability to work effectively with children with emotional disabilities. Strong collaborative skills are essential, as well as the ability to respond to academic and behavioral needs of individual students within a well‑defined behavioral program. Candidates should be able to create and implement academic programming for students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching students with significant emotional disabilities and autism spectrum disorders and experience supervising multiple Education Technicians.

Benefits include ongoing professional development with excellent onsite training as well as reimbursement for qualifying continuing education. Competitive salary based on experience. Medical and dental benefits and simple IRA are available.

Join a team that values your whole self—your passion, creativity, and heart for students. If you are looking for a school where your work truly makes a difference, where you are supported by a multidisciplinary team, and where your professional development is deeply valued, The Collaborative School may be the perfect fit.

Please send a completed application (available at www.collaborativeschool.org
), transcripts, and three letters of recommendation to Amanda Fenimore.
