Curriculum Coordinator & Superintendent of Schools – Johns Bay Coastal Alliance ESC
The newly formed Johns Bay Coastal Alliance Education Service Center is seeking its inaugural Superintendent/Curriculum Coordinator. The position will lead Bristol Consolidated School and South Bristol School (Pre‑K – 8th grade) beginning July 1, 2026. The Superintendent reports to the JBCA Board and each school’s Board, overseeing instructional staff and district-level staff, directly or through building administrators.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with the ESC Executive Director on shared‑services strategic goals and governance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for both school boards and the ESC board.
- Guide, evaluate, and mentor instructional staff, building administrators, and the Special Services Director.
- Improve student outcomes through innovative instructional techniques, curriculum development, and fostering a positive climate.
- Lead grant‑writing, fiscal management, and compliance with federal, state, and Maine education statutes.
- Conduct staff training, professional development, and maintain effective financial oversight.
- Attend evening school board and ESC board meetings.
- Minimum seven (7) years of administrative experience, including five (5) years as a building principal or central office leader.
- Maine Department of Education Superintendent Certificate (010) or equivalent.
- Experience serving multiple school boards or towns under shared contracts.
- Proven success as a district‑level educational leader, preferably across multiple communities or shared‑service settings.
- Ability to analyze, communicate, and act on complex educational, financial, and policy issues.
- Capacity to manage multiple districts, priorities, and relationships effectively.
- Knowledge of Maine’s education statutes, school governance models, and local funding structures.
- Experience working within collaborative or interlocal governance arrangements.
- Knowledge of rural education issues and small school leadership.
- Background in instructional leadership, fiscal management, and community engagement.
- Physical ability to travel among member districts and perform duties as required.
- Experience in shared‑service and collaborative governance models

- Background in instructional leadership tied to high academic rigor
- Effective fiscal management experience in a multi‑district setting
- Evidence of community engagement and advocacy for rural schools
