Practice Nurse

Bower Mount Medical Practice has an excellent opportunity for a practice nurse to join our team on a full or part-time basis.

Job Summary:

Working in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct, the practice nurse will provide assessment, treatment, screening, health education services, and adviceto patients.

Practice nurse will work with reference to the Practice agreed protocols and guidelines, providing nursing treatments to patients both independently and inparticipation with nurse colleagues and general practitioners.

Practice nurse must have the required level of training and competence and will work within patient group directions where these are available.

Aspatients have so many diverse needs, the role of a practice nurse might changeon a day-to-day or seasonal basis (for example in the case of seasonal fluvaccination services).

Practicenurses need to be diligent and work well under stressful conditions, this rolecan be a high-pressure job but with great personal reward.

We are proudto be a 'training practice' therefore mentoring trainee nurses, or traineenurse associates could be required.

Management of Long Term Conditions

Identifying significant abnormalities. Diagnosis, monitoring and development of individual management plans; agreeing these as appropriate with the patient and other health professionals.

Therapeutic Monitoring

Checking compliance with and adherence to appropriate treatments using an holistic patient-centred approach.Recognising abnormalities. Identifying the impact of treatment and implementing or recommending changes as appropriate.

Wound Care and Management

Assessing to support good wound management in routine and more complex situations (e.g. use of Doppler technique)

Recognising issues and gatheringsufficient information to refer (e.g. drugs; domestic violence; child protection; vulnerable adults; senior patients; social problems)

Health Screening

Recognising issues and gatheringsufficient information to refer (e.g. womens and mens health, sexual health,older people)

Undertaking monitoring tasks (e.g. smears) and providing advice as appropriate.

Providing in depth monitoring and advice as appropriate to thelevel of the post-holders specialty and working with the patient in decidingon management plans. Action lab reports within nurse remit.

Travel Health

Administering injections and providing guidance in accordance with guidelines.

Immunisation (Adult and Child)

Administering appropriate immunisationautonomously.

A practice nurse is responsible for a diverse array of responsibilities, skills and qualifications should include:

• An ability to prioritise tasks in order of importance;
• Calm and unflappable in first aid scenarios;
• The temperament to be able to cope in a high-pressure environment;
• An ability to solve patient problems and provide diagnoses even under pressure;
• Good communication with the rest of their practice team, including asking for assistance when required;
• A scientific background and the ability to apply knowledge correctly to each situation.

• We are looking for a practice nurse that specialises in respiratory and diabetics.
