Overview
We are keen to appoint an enthusiastic Neonatal consultant on a 12-month FTC to join the team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. This is a new position in the Department of Paediatrics at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, providing a clinical service at both Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury (TWH) and Maidstone Hospital. This is a new NNU consultant post to complement the existing 6 consultants on the call rota for NNU.
The post has been created in line with the recent BAPM (British Association of Perinatal Medicine) guideline and will make us compliant with the provision of 1 in 7 NNU consultants on calls. The post provides the experience of working at the Consultant level, doing Consultant of the Week in level 2 NNU on a 1:7 rota.
Consultants are expected to do normal neonatal follow-up and general paediatric clinics for all ages (0-16 years) in non-hot weeks. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a SPIN module in neonates and can demonstrate adequate neonatal experience. This post does not have any commitment as a resident on call unless there are emergency gaps on the rota. The General Paediatrics cohort will cover A & E and General Paediatrics.
There is no commitment to cover general paediatric on calls. We would encourage part-time and job sharers to apply for these jobs.
TWH at Pembury has 6500 deliveries per annum. The role includes providing a high standard of care to patients for whom you have clinical responsibility, including patients referred to you and cared for by you personally or by team members, and, in addition, any patients of consultant colleagues when covering on-call or for annual leave. You will participate in clinical and other service activities to ensure a high standard of patient care across the Trust and work in close cooperation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues to provide high-quality health care and contribute to the Trust’s strategic direction.
You will participate fully in and share leadership of the clinical governance of the speciality, covering Trust-wide activities, attend clinical governance half-days, participate actively in departmental audits, and take responsibility for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training and supervision. You will supervise junior medical staff and support their professional development. You are expected to ensure trainees undertake delegated clinical tasks within their competence and to comply with the General Medical Council’s Good Medical Practice.
