Job DescriptionThe primary purpose of this role is to lead the capture, triage, and resolution of all Post‑Development Engineering issues across the De Beers Mid‑Stream and Diamond Verification Instruments (DVI) disciplines. The role ensures that engineering challenges are addressed promptly and effectively, while maintaining full compliance with the De Beers Life Cycle Management (LCM) or Change Process framework.
In addition, the role contributes to a portfolio of small‑to‑medium‑scale ‘cradle to grave’ projects within De Beers Science and Technology, supporting the development and delivery of innovative solutions from initial concept through to final implementation.
KEY WORK OUTPUTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Ensure full adherence to the internal De Beers Life Cycle Management (LCM) or Change Process framework in the execution of all PR‑related activities.
Report directly to TPM (Technical Programme Manager)
Participates in regular 1:1 check‑ins. Review workload status, priorities, and challenges as part of a structured, recurring schedule.
Monitor and triage all PRs (Problem Reports) arising from obsolescence, production, supply‑chain, and quality‑related issues.
Execute the required engineering actions to resolve business critical PR’s, ensuring that Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles are fully evaluated, incorporated, and applied throughout the solution.
Update Technical documentation
Update all relevant technical specifications, documentation, and BOMs to align with and support the engineering solutions developed for PRs.
Generate and update CAD models, along with associated part, assembly, and drawings
Using CREO in conjunction with Windchill to resolve engineering challenges, applying best‑practice modelling techniques and geometric tolerancing (GEO TOL) principles across top‑level assemblies, sub‑assemblies, and individual components. Produce clear, accurate, and compliant engineering drawings in accordance with ISO
128, BS888.
Adhere to relevant safety and environmental standards of systems and sub-systems – develop products that satisfy internal company standards and meet required safety and environmental standards (such as ISO 18801, ISO 14001)
Use relevant prototyping, manufacturing methodologies, and material selection to test, build, and validate designs – build and test designs, using relevant prototyping/manufacturing techniques to validate applicability. Create and lead experiments, where suitable, providing recommendations for end-product.
Work within a dynamic cross functional environment.
Work closely with the Production & Tech Support team during implementation changes, and collaborate with electronics, software, research, and Machine Learning (ML) colleagues to ensure seamless integration of solutions into the overall technology and processes.
Qualifications- Minimum: BEng/BSc in mechanical, or related, engineering discipline
