The Group Privacy Specialist is responsible for the effective management, implementation, and continuous improvement of ALS’ privacy framework. This role ensures that privacy risks are identified, assessed, and managed across all business units, aligning with ALS objectives and better practice standards. The Group Privacy Specialist will play a key role in privacy impact assessments, breach management, data protection initiatives, and foster a close working relationship with the IT division to ensure robust and compliant handling of personal information.
* Lead the ongoing development, implementation, and review of the ALS’ privacy framework in line with legislative requirements and better practice specifically covering GDPR and Australian Privacy Principles.
* Coordinate and conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for new projects, processes, or system changes that involve personal or sensitive information, identifying privacy risks and recommending mitigations.
* Manage privacy breaches and incidents, including assessment, reporting, root cause analysis, and remedial action, ensuring compliance with mandatory notification requirements.
* Champion ALS’ data protection strategies, collaborating closely with IT to develop and maintain technical and organisational measures for securing personal information.
* Establish and maintain strong working partnerships with IT, Legal, Risk, Compliance and other key stakeholders to integrate privacy considerations into business operations and technology solutions.
* Develop and deliver privacy training and awareness programs tailored to different business units to ensure a strong culture of privacy compliance.
* Monitor, interpret, and communicate emerging privacy regulatory and legislative developments, advising management of impacts and required actions.
* Maintain ALS’ privacy register and support the management of data subject rights requests (e.g., access, correction, deletion).
* Support regular privacy audits and compliance reviews, overseeing the implementation of recommended improvements.
* Prepare periodic reports and presentations on privacy risks, incidents, and compliance status for executive and Board-level audiences.
