Respawn is looking for a Senior Tools Engineer who is passionate about developing world‑class tools for Apex Legends, our flagship game! You will have the chance to improve, optimize, support, and develop new features for our content authoring tools.
* Note, we are only considering candidates who are willing to work hybrid onsite from our Vancouver, BC, or Los Angeles offices*
Responsibilities- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of code focusing on the core features of our level design, landscape and animation editing tools for Apex Legends.
- Develop architecture and design solutions for problems within our tools.
- Collaborate with technical artists, rendering, and content teams to streamline end‑to‑end asset processing.
- Analyze and optimize placement workflows for efficiency and reliability.
- Improve and maintain level compilation workflows.
- Track bugs, enhancement requests, and technical debt for tools used in the pipeline.
- Plan and prioritize tool development tasks in alignment with project schedules and content team needs.
- Design and implement automated testing and continuous integration for tool reliability.
- Excellent C++ skills.
- 10+ years of experience having worked on and shipped large game projects.
- You enjoy being a subject matter expert and the ‘go‑to’ person for internal customers.
- Strong experience with custom level design, landscape and animation editor tools for a game engine.
- Excellent 3D math skills.
- Experience integrating with graphics APIs.
- Well versed in software engineering principles.
- Familiarity with an existing game engine and understanding of editor concepts.
- Collaborative, humble and a contributor to a healthy team culture.
- Familiarity with graphics programming principles and theory.
- Experience with shader programming.
- British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$138,700 - $199,900 CAD
- California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. San Francisco) *$160,600 - $249,300 USD
In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full‑time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
For British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top‑up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full‑time employees.
Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
