Overview

Summary: This position involves installing and repairing large HVAC systems, recognizing causes of faulty equipment, and performing repairs on a variety of air conditioning functions including heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulating equipment. The role requires the ability to independently perform preventative maintenance and repairs at a journeyman level for commercial and industrial HVAC and air conditioning systems.

Responsibilities
  • Provide skilled expertise in performing preventative maintenance on industrial and commercial HVAC systems, including supporting components of those systems.
  • Provide troubleshooting expertise on industrial and commercial HVAC systems, including supporting components/elements of those systems.
  • Perform repair work on industrial and commercial HVAC systems, including supporting components of those systems.
  • Support installations on industrial and commercial HVAC systems, including supporting components of those systems.
  • Repair, modify, maintain, troubleshoot, service, and perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, air conditioning units, plants, and related equipment in specific and/or critical areas. Work independently to check elements that control internal pressures, temperatures, and running times of various machines.
  • Work with or train others in the operation of complex equipment and systems.
  • Replace items such as safety devices, thermostats, heating elements, overload switches, heater strips, magnetic coils, humidistats, and condensers.
  • Typically operate within a schedule of Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm.
  • Work requires good coordination and physical condition; ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, and lift up to 50 pounds; operate hoists, pulleys, and ladders; work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms in hard-to-reach places.
  • Must have rapid mental and muscular coordination, good hearing, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish colors; glasses are permitted.
Qualifications
  • Experience:

    Evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties; ability to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to air conditioning and refrigeration equipment repair. Applicants will be evaluated against standard job elements including installation, repair, troubleshooting, and technical practices.
  • Ability to work without more than normal supervision in performing the full range of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment repair.
  • Ability to operate and maintain tools and equipment; interpret instructions and specifications (including blueprints).
  • Physical ability to perform required duties as described above.
