THIS IS A LIMITED TERM EMPLOYMENT (LTE) POSITION WITH AN EXPECTED DURATION OF ONE (1) YEAR
The Traffic Engineering Division is looking to hire a Vehicle Upfitter/Installer to provide support for the efficient and safe operation of Public Safety and Public Works operations, through the installation and maintenance of radio communications equipment and associated public safety/works devices. This is technical electronics work in the Communications Section that involves installing, maintaining, and repairing mobile two-way radios and associated equipment.
The work is performed under the general direction of the Communications Operation Supervisor and leadership of the Communications Operations Lead worker.
Hours: Standard work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.

- Install, maintain, repair and remove:
- Two-way radios, including antennas, speakers, microphones, control heads, cables, etc., in public safety and maintenance equipment.
- Emergency and warning light systems on emergency and maintenance vehicles.
- Sirens, speakers and associated control equipment.
- Miscellaneous electrical and/or electronic equipment from emergency and maintenance vehicles (e.g., shotgun racks, in car video systems, Mobile Data Consoles, printers, flashlights with chargers, interior lights, marine radios, etc.).
- Assist higher level technical staff with the installation, maintenance and repair of communication systems and associated components (e.g., towers, antennas, base stations, dispatch consoles, intercoms, portable two-way radio and paging systems, security systems, etc.).
- Complete daily work orders and billings for installation, repairs and maintenance. Update inventory records.
- Clean and maintain shop equipment.
- Inspect, maintain and clean tower sites.
- Perform related work as required.
- Qualifications:
- One (1) year of experience in the installation, maintenance and/or repair of electronic equipment, such as mobile or two-way radios (May include automotive experience); AND
- Coursework in electronics.
- OR
- Eighteen (18) months of experience in the installation, maintenance and/or repair of electronic equipment, such as mobile or two-way radios (May include automotive experience).
Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.

Possession of a valid driver s license.
Physical RequirementsWill be expected to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to engage in strenuous physical activity on a daily basis. Must be able to use various hand and power tools related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of communications equipment. Must have good eye-hand coordination. Must be able to operate standard automotive equipment.
Will be expected to walk, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift arms overhead to perform work for extended periods of times. Must be able to work at heights from ladders, work in small confined spaces, and must be able to use color-coded wiring systems.
