As a Field Service Technician - Network you will install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain telecommunications products and equipment that TDS sells and leases (Key Systems, PBX, Centrex Systems, and/or other business systems). You will perform work associated with splicing and maintaining outside plant facilities and equipment. You will install, splice, repair, and maintain aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and copper cable.
You will also use telecommunications products and seek sales opportunities while educating customers. Products & services include (but are not limited to):
Telephony, Video/CATV/DBS, Internet, and high‑speed networks.
Location:
Due to in-field support and on-call requirements, the selected individual must reside within a 60‑minute distance from Verona, WI.

Responsibilities- Install, troubleshoot, test, splice, repair, and maintain telephone equipment, network equipment, video/CATV/DBS, fiber optic/copper facilities, and other TDS products and services for new and existing customers.
- Identify defective cable locations using test equipment and repair buried, aerial, underground, or customer cable. Locate cable and fiber in response to customer requests and/or construction needs.
- Operate pole climbing and construction equipment. Mark company underground and buried facilities to prevent damage.
- Maintain log of all locate requests.
- Perform cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
- Provide troubleshooting support and respond to dispatches.
- Enhance and maintain record systems (cross‑connects, line groups, network elements, etc.).
- Provide excellent customer service and proactively educate and sell TDS products and services.
- Gain knowledge of RUS standards and grounding practices for splicing and maintenance of outside plant facilities.
- 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience or prior military service with honorable discharge.
- 6+ months basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Adherence to TDS attendance guidelines.
- Success in background check administered by customer upon hire.
- Availability for on‑call/standby and occasional travel; willingness to work overtime.
- Successful completion of Safety Course curriculum and maintenance of DOT requirements for vehicles with GVRW >10,000 lbs.
- Strong technical understanding of fiber and copper plant installation and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of telecommunications products and services (inside wiring, Internet, bonding, grounding, data, fiber, etc.).
- Experience with computer applications (databases, dispatch systems, MS Office).
- Independent decision-making and strong organizational skills.
- Excellent customer service, sales, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles.
Requires sitting, standing, writing, operating a keyboard, frequent movement, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally. Requires outdoor work, mechanical rooms, extreme weather, and exposure to heavy equipment. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
