PositionThe Instrument Sales Specialist supports, promotes, and sells the full range of Gilson Instrumentation products, consumables, and services within the assigned territory to meet budgeted sales goals, covering the territory in its entirety. This role follows sales best practices to achieve these goals, focusing on customer retention, development, expansion, and ongoing satisfaction. The specialist serves as a subject matter expert on Gilson Instrumentation products, features and benefits, applications, and the competitive landscape.
Works collaboratively with the Account Manager in the territory to achieve sales goals. Directly contributes to Gilson’s mission to enable verifiable science by helping scientists select the products they need to work most effectively.
- Meets or exceeds established targets for sales volume, product mix, and new product and services awareness within the assigned territory.
- Travels throughout the territory to call on established and prospective customers, demonstrating products, quoting, presenting, troubleshooting, and attending local and national trade shows. Builds demand and provides follow-up to achieve sales. Optimizes travel to maximize customer coverage while controlling costs.
- Follows up and processes sales leads from various sources (other Gilson reps, trade shows, campaigns, inquiries, etc.).
- Applies Gilson sales techniques and best practices throughout the sales cycle to achieve goals.
- Submits and maintains accurate monthly forecasts via Opportunity Management in
- Maintains territory data for accounts, key personnel, and pipeline reports in (SFDC) on a bi-weekly basis.
- Collaborates with Field Service & Support Specialist to promote proactive sales, service, and support within the territory.
- Participates in required and recommended training to attain and maintain in-depth technical knowledge of the Gilson Product Portfolio.
- Collaborates with service and support personnel for post-sale installation, training, and ongoing service contract support as needed.
- Coordinates with Corporate Accounts team on Corporate Accounts and initiatives within the territory, as needed.
- Trains and motivates account managers and Inside sales to ensure Gilson sales goals are met and to expand penetration of customer accounts.
- Maintains current knowledge of territory trends, competitive products and pricing, and customer concerns observed in the field.
- Develops and executes time management and account/territory business plans.
- Communicates local success stories to management for replication in other territories.

- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a 4-year college or university in Life Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or related science field.
- Minimum of 5 years of industry-related sales experience or a combination of highly technical background and sales experience.
- Training in laboratory sciences and/or life sciences.
- Computer proficiency required.
- CRM fluency for daily usage, opportunity/lead management, and customer maintenance.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business materials, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write business correspondence and reports and to present information to customers and colleagues.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
- Ability to solve technical problems and manage variable scenarios.
- Strong organizational skills and comprehensive selling techniques including negotiation.
- Experience in selling capital equipment.
- A valid driver’s license, good driving record, and reliable transportation (capable of transporting demonstration equipment when necessary).
- Up to 60% travel including overnight stays.
- Regular attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work well with others and adapt to change.
- Training or experience in laboratory or research instrumentation use.
- Experience using Gilson equipment.
- Training in analytical or organic chemistry.
