Job SummaryThe Scientist I position is a full‑time appointment in the laboratory of Dr. Alexey Glukhov within the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Medicine, at the University of Wisconsin‑Madison. The University of Wisconsin‑Madison is a leading public research institution with a strong commitment to biomedical research, education, and clinical innovation. The Department of Medicine supports a broad range of basic and translational research programs aimed at improving human health.
Dr. Glukhov’s laboratory is part of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and focuses on understanding mechanisms of heart rhythm disorders and regulation of cardiac function.
The primary purpose of the Scientist I position is to support ongoing cardiovascular research projects by conducting laboratory‑based experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to the communication of research findings. The Scientist I will perform electrophysiological studies and pharmacological testing on isolated, Langendorff‑perfused mouse and rat hearts, as well as isolated mouse and rat atrial preparations, under various physiological conditions, including neurohormonal, mechanical, and drug‑based stimulation.
These studies are conducted using established experimental methods to evaluate heart electrical activity, calcium signaling, and mechanical function.
The Scientist I will collect, organize, analyze, and document research data in accordance with established policies and procedures, working under general supervision. The position includes preparing research summaries, reports, and manuscripts for submission to peer‑reviewed journals, presenting research findings at local and national scientific meetings, and conducting reviews of relevant scientific literature. The Scientist I will also assist with the preparation of research grant applications, support collaborative research projects within and outside the University of Wisconsin‑Madison, and provide day‑to‑day supervision and guidance to undergraduate and graduate students.
Participation in seminars, meetings, and scholarly events organized by the Cardiovascular Research Center, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, and Department of Medicine is also expected.
- Position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
- Terminal, 24‑month appointment.
- This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.
- Conduct literature reviews, prepare reports and materials, and disseminate information to appropriate entities.
- Write or assist in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding.
- Collect and analyze research data, conduct experiments and interviews, and document results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision and limited responsibility.
- Attend and assist with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information.
- Assist with the identification of research problems and the development of research methodologies and procedures.
- Serve as the main point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders, providing information and representing the interests of a specialized research area.
