Overview
The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) works in the Hematology Service, providing a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The NP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to manage patient care.

Major Duties and Responsibilities- The NP collaborates with the medical staff to complete virtual/chart review consults.
- Provides assessment, diagnosis, education, and medication management for patients.
- Other duties may be assigned to assist the facility as directed by the Specialty Section Chief and/or Administrative Supervisor.
- Provides inpatient and outpatient care.
- Collaborates across surgery, medicine, nursing, and other professional service lines.
- Practices to the full extent of education, training, and certification.
- Has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients as indicated by the position.
- Is a licensed independent practitioner with national certification providing evidence‑based care for a population of patients.
- Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention using evidence‑based practice.
- Develops and implements individualized plans to achieve optimal population health and disease management.
- Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
- Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies.
- Prescribes pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic interventions.
- Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services.
- Provides education to patients and their families.
- Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

- Work schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 07:30‑16:00. - Ad‑hoc telework, as determined by agency policy.
- Position is not virtual.
- Relocation not authorized.
- Permanent Change of Station (PCS) not authorized.
- U.S. citizenship. Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens per VA policy.
- Successful completion of urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use; refusal results in denial of employment.
- Proficiency in basic written and spoken English; in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f).
- Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Background/security investigation required.
- Requirement to complete online onboarding process.
- Acceptable forms of identification (e.g., I‑9 documentation) must be provided.
- Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all VA Health Care Personnel.
- Probationary period may be required.
- Resume and supporting documents must reflect required qualifications and include necessary paperwork (e.g., DD‑214, VA disability letter, license, professional certification).
