Job SummaryThe primary responsibility of the Brewhouse Supervisor is to facilitate daily brewhouse tasks and maintain production flow. Act as a resource for brewing staff in all aspects of daily production, troubleshooting and scheduling. Proactively engage with other departments to seamlessly execute the production schedule; produce high quality, in-spec product streams.
Primary Responsibilities- Serve as accountable party for the shift.
- Work in all areas of brewhouse operations – support daily production needs.
- Be a champion of training and understanding of systems and processes.
- Make decisions regarding production concerns.
- Ensure scheduled work is completed per the SOP.
- Monitor mash gap timing to optimize brewhouse time.
- Act as primary communicator of schedule changes as required.
- Ensure all products meet specified quality and volume specifications.
- OG, KO volume, hopping rates and timing and ensure brewer accountability across shift.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues may arise, coordinate with the maintenance team to expedite a solution, minimizing downtime.
- Fill in brewing shifts to cover PTO and sick days on scheduled shift.**
- ** - All duties assigned are “on scheduled shift”, unless unforeseen circumstances require otherwise.
- Display conduct of a leader and diplomat, advocating for both team and management to ensure goals are met and concerns are addressed.
- Act as the primary point of contact for work concerns arising from the shift answering questions related to decision making that is beyond the comfort level of the brewers on the shift.
- Assess the schedule, request reasonable schedule changes based on his/her understanding of process and workflow to supply the cellar team with wort. Communicate any schedule changes to all departments necessary to maintain production flow.
- Act as the point of contact between purchasing/inventory and cellar shift supervisor to provide continuous updates on the status of wort production as it pertains to those departments.
- Status of current brewing operations, malt staging and dry storage.
- Status of empty tanks and yeast, ready to receive wort.
- Coordinate and assist with lab staff on any needed samples or related information.
- Ensure all required documentation by shift brewers is complete.
- Turn paperwork is filled out to completion and is accurate for materials used, quantities, and lot numbers.
- Provide feedback directly to the Brewhouse Manager related to all aspects of the shift including personnel, production needs, work flow and completion.
- Regularly check in with employees and provide performance feedback.
- Ensure safe working conditions are maintained on shift.
- Wear proper PPE, forklift safety, fall restraint systems, confined space, etc.
- Ensure both brewhouses are in good functioning condition throughout the shift, manage shift handoff.
- Responsible for work delegation to shift brewers on both brewhouses to execute scheduled work.
- Responsible for general condition, organization, and cleanliness of both brewhouses, malt rooms and associated brewhouse areas.
- Adhere to all PPE and GMP requirements.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to lift 55lbs and move 165lbs, as needed.
- Ability to stand for an extended period of time.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Basic troubleshooting skills in a brewing/manufacturing setting.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Time management skills.
- Flexibility to work various shifts.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced environment.
- 2-3 years experience in a brewing environment, a plus.
- Degree in Brewing Science/Technology, a plus.
