Overview

Facilities Planning Manager role at PBS Wisconsin. Wisconsin Public Media (WPM), a division of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, is seeking an individual to join our team in a full-time capacity to apply facilities-related technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership in support of public media operations across the state.

The Facilities Planning Manager will support statewide media services, PBS Wisconsin and Wisconsin Public Radio. Reporting to the Director of Facilities and working within the Director’s Office, this individual will collaborate with WPM leadership, staff, and statewide partners to plan, coordinate, and implement facilities-related initiatives. The role requires a blend of technical proficiency, project management, administrative know-how and interpersonal skill to navigate complex challenges and deliver impactful solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with colleagues to plan long-term capital improvements and prepare biennial capital budget requests that support maintenance and capital renewal to ensure reliability of facilities and equipment used for media production and broadcast.
  • Recommend resource allocation in alignment with WPM, UW–Madison and Universities of Wisconsin strategic priorities and protocols.
  • Serve as the Divisional Representative to plan implementation of and contribute to management of capital projects, including space renovations, furniture and equipment installations, and transmitter site renewals, from concept to completion.
  • Lead space planning and design efforts to optimize facility usage and support organizational goals.
  • Serve as a liaison between WPM and other university divisions (particularly Facilities Planning & Management, “FPM”), fostering strong relationships and cross-functional coordination.
  • Collaborate with Division Executives and partners to prepare capital budget requests and project implementation approaches that align with strategic priorities and address maintenance and renewal of facilities and equipment, ensuring compliance standards and high-functioning media production and broadcast.
  • Assist with developing operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, best practices, and unit objectives.
  • May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees.
  • Review, evaluate, approve, and provide recommendations for facility improvements, space assignments, and proposals utilizing best practices and established policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the Divisional Representative to contribute to management of capital projects, from concept to completion, including space renovations, furniture and equipment installations, and transmitter site capital renewals.
Qualifications Required
  • Demonstrated experience in managing facilities, including identifying maintenance, repair, and replacement needs
  • Exceptional interpersonal collaboration with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and contractors
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, synthesize, and communicate complex facilities-related content to multiple stakeholder groups
Preferred
  • Professional project management experience focused on facilities projects
  • Experience in a public institution of higher education or a state government agency
  • Experience with Wisconsin state capital budget planning
  • Understanding of media production and broadcasting
  • License as a Professional Engineer, Architect, Landscape Architect, or related profession OR certifications such as PMI PCP, APPA CEFP, IFMA CFM/SFP, or similar facilities management credentials
Education

Bachelor’s degree preferred; focus in engineering, architecture, facilities management or related planning and design field preferred.
