Position Summary
This position performs specialized legal services with a primary focus on employment law and litigation, but with the possibility of including one or more of the following areas of practice: administrative law, civil law and litigation, contract and property law, criminal and juvenile law, health care and guardianship law, and open records and privacy law.
SalaryThe starting pay is between $37.83 and $58.07 per hour. The pay schedule/range is 09-75.
Job DetailsApplicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The DOC will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.
NOTE:
This position will work approximately 20 hours a week with one day in the office and 1.5 days remote. Candidates must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin in order to be considered.
Minimally qualified applicants will have a license or eligibility for license to practice law in the State of Wisconsin at the time of hire and the below knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of federal and state laws including statutes and code
- Ability to analyze complex situations and effectively recommend solutions.
- Ability to organize, manage, and plan work assignments.
- Ability to effectively work with others in order to accomplish objectives.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Effective skills in legal research.
- Knowledge of legislative process.
