Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an Echo Technologist / Cardiac Sonographer with at least one year of cardiac experience and current registration in echocardiography (RCS or RDCS) for a dayshift contract.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a hospital setting providing adult and geriatric echocardiography, with occasional adolescent and pediatric cases
  • Duties include transthoracic echo, transesophageal echo, stress echo testing (including dobutamine and treadmill), and carotid duplex studies
  • Perform exams using both stationary and portable ultrasound equipment
  • Monday through Friday, 8-hour day shifts with variable start times between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM
  • Rotational weekend shifts and possible call coverage as needed
  • Travelers are the first to float and may be assigned to multiple units or departments within the organization as staffing needs require
  • Requires working within a large academic teaching hospital environment
  • Independently perform sonographic studies and communicate preliminary findings to physicians
  • Assist with clinical instruction for students, fellows, residents, and visiting physicians
  • May participate in clinical research and act as a clinical resource
  • Pass/fail clinical testing is required with strict passing criteria and limited attempts prior to contract cancellation
  • Department-specific orientation provided, typically lasting about one week
  • Orientation location and schedule details will be provided in the welcome letter
  • Parking onsite requires a permit; other transportation options available
  • Scrubs or dress code will follow facility policy
  • First-time travelers are accepted in some units
  • Holiday coverage and rotational weekend shifts are expected
  • Requests for time off will be reviewed by the manager, generally not to exceed two weeks per contract
Requirements
  • Minimum of one year cardiac sonography experience required
  • Registered in echocardiography (RCS or RDCS)
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association required
  • Graduate of an ultrasonography program required
  • Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited ultrasonography training program preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Ultrasonography, Radiology, Biological Sciences, or a related health sciences field preferred
  • Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
  • License required if applicable
  • Pass/fail telemetry exam required prior to start, with 100% on lethal rhythm identification and minimum score of 80%
  • Travelers are required to maintain an active telemetry competency
