Radiologic Tech - MRI Apprentice

Program starts August 2026. 100% FTE, schedule is 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. You will attend classes at 610 N Whitney Way, Madison, WI and participate in clinical experiences at UW Health University Hospital, UW Health Sports Medicine Clinic, 1 South Park Street Clinic, and UW Health East Madison Hospital.

Program Overview

This apprenticeship will prepare you for a career as a Radiologic Technologist specializing in MRI. The program combines competency-based classroom instruction with progressively independent clinical practice, culminating in a recognized certification.

Responsibilities
  • Complete the program and obtain ARRT (MR) certification within nine months or ARMRIT certification within fourteen months.
  • Participate in competency-based classroom and clinical instruction, becoming increasingly independent in performing complex and specialized procedures.
  • Perform technical imaging examinations under general supervision using a variety of imaging equipment and computer systems.
Eligibility
  • Graduate of a CHEA‑accredited school of radiologic technology with a minimum of an Associate’s degree, or completion of college coursework, including college‑level science, in addition to the experience below.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (preferred).
Additional Requirements
  • Sign a contract committing to work for UW Health as a Rad Tech – MRI for at least 24 months after program completion, or reimburse UW Health the full program cost ($12,500.00).

Qualifications
  • Graduate of a CHEA‑accredited school of radiologic technology with an Associate’s degree or equivalent coursework.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (preferred).
Work Experience
  • Six months of direct patient care experience (required).
  • Two years of clinical experience in medical imaging (preferred).
Licenses & Certifications
  • ARRT(MR) certification within nine months of program start (required), or ARMRIT certification within fourteen months (required).
  • Basic Life Support/CPR within three months (required).
  • ARRT Radiography (R) certification (preferred).
  • Wisconsin Radiological License (preferred).
