Job Summary:

The UW-Madison Police Department is hiring for full time Emergency Management Specialists. This position plays a key role in planning for, responding to, and preventing emergencies. This role works as part of a team responsible for crisis management, infrastructure security, and related critical functions. Under the general supervision of the Emergency Management Manager, this position facilitates and manages the development of response plans for crisis, emergency response, continuity of operations, continuity of government, evacuation, logistics, disease outbreak, large population events and other emergency response plans for UW-Madison.

This position provides assistance in plan development for UW System which consists of 26 campuses with over 200,000 students, faculty and staff. This position may require travel to UW System Colleges.

This position is considered an essential position for the University Campus. The final schedule worked will be discussed and agreed upon with UWPD management. In general, the hours will be during business hours Monday-Friday to meet the needs of UWPD. Occasional work beyond or outside hours agreed upon may be required during emergencies, special events or as assigned. This position will serve as an on-call staff member on a rotating schedule to respond to after hours and weekend emergencies.

Key

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a point of contact for emergency management and emergency operations center activations, has delegated authority to make decisions on behalf of emergency management including commitment of resources required to address emergency situations
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for crisis management activities
  • Identifies, organizes, and evaluates emergency management education and drills
  • Creates emergency plans in response to natural disasters, terrorist acts, crowd violence, and emergencies of significant scope
  • Required to work special events or assignments as designated by the Department.
  • Operates emergency control database(s) and adjacent resources
  • Provides technical assistance with the development of compliance, investigative, and inspection procedures

Compensation:

Minimum $63,000 ANNUAL (12 months). Depending on Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum six (6) months of relevant work experience in emergency management, first responder roles, or other relevant experience considered.
  • Must have completed Incident Command System (ICS) 100 and Incident Command System (ICS) 200.
  • Must have competent computer skills or the ability to learn the required applications.
  • This position requires a valid Wisconsin Driver's License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience and also meets UW Risk Management Standards.
  • Candidates must pass the initial application screening, all steps of the hiring process, an extensive background investigation including past employment, reference checks, social media check, credit history, drug screen, and medical and psychological examination prior to beginning employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience is preferred providing support to different entities off-site, working with various levels of an organization's administration in developing and monitoring emergency response and management plans, and/or experience developing and facilitating tabletop/functional exercises.
  • Experience working on a campus or in a higher education setting is preferred.

Bachelor's Degree Preferred Minimum
