Role OverviewThe Credit Card Manager is responsible for contributing to the development and execution of credit card initiatives that support the strategic direction of the Card Programs department. The role optimizes the overall credit card user experience, manages vendor relationships associated with day‑to‑day credit card operations, and aligns staff, systems, and processes to ensure high operational excellence. The manager maintains comprehensive knowledge of governmental regulations, Visa and NYCE operating rules, card networks, and card processors, and implements changes resulting from regulatory or product updates that carry high risk or impact.
The manager also coaches and develops staff through effective leadership and sound practices guided by UWCU Performance Management Philosophy.
Develop and Execute Program Standard
- Collaborate with the Director of Card Programs and VP of Loss Prevention & Card Programs to develop and maintain the Card Programs Roadmap and annual business plans.
- Coordinate and oversee the execution of projects and initiatives identified within the Card Programs Roadmap and annual business plans.
- Focus on the credit card cardholder user experience and influence the design of end‑to‑end cardholder experience to enhance product offerings and drive high member utilization.
- Advocate and champion the future vision of the Credit Card Programs to Team members and internal stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of marketplace providers, participate in vendor due diligence, and make recommendations for the selection of new providers.
- Meet or exceed Card Program goals established annually.
- Keep informed on general credit card industry product developments and recommend new product features, designs, and/or benefits.
- Establish a network of peers within the industry to exchange best practices, trends, and vendor experiences.
- Approve vendor invoices, monitor profitability reports, and manage departmental budgets to ensure goals are met.
Operational Excellence
- Develop, review, and recommend new functionality, methods, and procedures to increase departmental efficiency and enhance user experience.
- Review state, federal, vendor, and industry communications to ensure compliance with all rules or regulations.
- Participate in, provide solutions to, and manage ongoing updates on internal and external audits.
- Manage vendor relationships and address non‑compliant issues promptly.
- Communicate compliance or product changes with Credit Card Coordinator to stay abreast of daily vendor communication.
- Create strategies for dispute and fraud processing to increase recovery rates and reduce member effort.
- Maintain policies and procedures within the department.
- Resolve complex cardholder issues to deepen loyalty.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Program Support
- Collaborate with other organization areas to optimize user experience and reduce friction using change management tools.
- Lead creation of internal and cross‑functional training and communication items.
- Work with Debit Card Manager and Director of Card Programs to prioritize enhancement requests.
- Partner with Consumer Lending, Marketing & Communications, Loss Prevention, Membership Services, Internet Services, IT, and Member Solutions Center.
- Align credit card strategies and solutions with Consumer Lending for deeper member relationships.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field required (comparable years of experience will be considered).
- 6‑7 years of Card Programs experience required.
- 4‑5 years of supervisory experience required.

- Thorough understanding of processor pricing and product profitability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication to produce clear documentation and facilitate meetings.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to negotiate priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

- Leadership and change management experience.
- Research and data organization skills.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Knowledge of State and Federal compliance (Reg E & Reg Z).
