We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in our Madison, WI office. This position could also be remote for the right candidate.
Responsibilities- Lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for moderate to complex projects and provide design direction with limited senior staff support for larger, high-complexity projects.
- Work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide project direction, engineering solutions, and client guidance to ensure positive outcomes.
- Manage project scope within budget, assist in training and mentoring, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
- Lead design, analysis, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry; participate in project interviews and presentations.
- Lead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems; create designs, specifications, and calculations according to code and IMEG standards.
- Perform site assessments and generate detailed analyses and technical reports.
- Interact with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information effectively; build and maintain client relationships.
- Provide in-process design reviews and implement IMEG quality control processes to meet standards and client requirements.
- Provide technical training and mentoring; assist in resolving field issues with limited senior support.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
- Prioritize safety in all engineering work and mitigate potential safety risks.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions; participate in project interviews and presentations.
- Advanced proficiency in design techniques and tools for producing technical plans and specifications; strong knowledge of thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Strong training, mentoring, and leadership skills; ability to perform final quality control checks.
- Ability to sell work and develop client relationships; excellent written and verbal communication; strong interpersonal skills.
- Team-oriented workstyle with attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Adaptability to new challenges; proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays.

- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
- Minimum 7 years of experience; 8+ preferred in the building design consulting industry.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Coordinate, oversee, and manage projects of varying size and complexity.
- Assist with design scopes, fee calculations, proposals, and contract reviews; create project schedules with milestones and deadlines.
- Serve as main point of contact for teams and clients; manage billing, progress reporting, and client communications.
- Ensure designs meet owner standards, IMEG standards, and code requirements; ensure timely delivery of milestones and QA processes.
- Lead design reviews, conduct site visits, and handle change orders and client concerns.
- Train, mentor, and motivate staff; build and maintain client relationships.
